Recently a new gadget emerged out of the primordial ooze of Kickstarter called Tellspec. This thing uses an electromagnetic spectrometer to determine the chemical composition of the material you're scanning with a simple wave over the surface. The thing is, it's a smartphone pair and it is wasted on food, telling you if it's healthy or not and why -_-
Electromagnetic spectrometers have been around for a long time, but this thing made an accurate scanning chip the size of a fingertip, obviously able to operate on low power. It's too perfect for these tricorders. The only problem is that it needs to run the scan through an analyzing server that you need to subscribe to, so I wonder whether the tricorders would be able to have their own analyzing software or if they would need a server reference.
I'd like to know if there's any possibility for something like this in the tricorders, and what this would entail.
